Building a new life in Australia: The longitudinal study of humanitarian migrants - waves 1-3

25 November 2025

Building a New Life in Australia (BNLA) is a major longitudinal study following nearly 2,400 humanitarian migrants as they settle in Australia. This Department of Social Services resource summarises findings from the first three waves of data collection and links to more detailed reports and factsheets. The study follows participants from their early months in Australia over several years, capturing changes in housing, employment, English language proficiency, education, health, family relationships, community participation and feelings of safety and belonging.
