National Youth Settlement Framework: A guide for supporting and measuring good practice with young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds in Australia
Description
Developed by the Multicultural Youth Advocacy Network (MYAN) Australia, the National Youth Settlement Framework (NYSF) provides a national benchmark for supporting young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds across Australia. It equips service providers, educators and policy makers with a shared framework to promote active citizenship and inclusive participation in education, employment, health and community life.
The NYSF outlines a structured approach built around good-practice capabilities, outcome indicators and practical tools for implementation. It positions young people as active agents in their own settlement journey, emphasising their strengths, resilience and leadership potential. A supplementary resource kit extends the framework with guidance for program planning, service delivery and evaluation.
The accompanying webinar series deepens understanding of the Framework in action. Topics include policy and practice alignment, culturally responsive service models, youth engagement, education pathways, and addressing intersectional experiences such as disability and identity among refugee and migrant youth.
For community work professionals, the NYSF offers an essential foundation for designing and evaluating youth settlement programs. It encourages a whole-of-community approach, strengthening collaboration between services and ensuring that young people from diverse backgrounds are supported to thrive and contribute fully to Australian society.
