Diverse Genders and Sexualities (Micro-Credential)

Offered by Australian Institute of Professional Counsellors (AIPC)

In this micro-credential you’ll learn how to work effectively with LGBTIQ+ clients. You’ll learn about the specific challenges and areas of risk faced by the LGBTIQ+ population, including depression and suicide. You’ll review the benefits and limitations different therapeutic approaches can have when working with a client from the LGBTIQ+ community. And you’ll work through five case studies.

Mainstream Western understandings of gender and sexuality are changing. For example, gender identity has traditionally been understood in a limited way – a person could either be a man, a woman or ‘other.’ In the past twenty years the possibilities of gender and sexuality have become increasingly apparent.

This course is divided into four parts:

  • Background
  • Important issues
  • Therapeutic approaches
  • Case studies
