The Committee recommends sustained investment in evidence-based diversion programs, culturally appropriate services for Aboriginal communities, stronger support for families, improved education and employment pathways, and better integration between justice, health, education and community services. It also highlights the importance of addressing police workforce pressures and reducing the number of non-policing responsibilities placed on officers.
Overall, the report argues that safer regional communities require long-term investment in prevention rather than reactive responses. It calls on the NSW Government to improve coordination across agencies, strengthen local service delivery, monitor program outcomes and ensure policies are informed by community needs and evidence.
