Research Paper

Community First Development and our Community Development Framework

Our summary

This article outlines the approach used by Community First Development, a national First Nations–led community development and research organisation that creates positive change in and with First Nations' communities. At the centre of their model is self-determination and decolonisation by privileging First Nations’ perspectives, governance structures, and ways of being and doing.

The paper explains their Community Development Framework, which moves away from linear Western models and instead reflects interconnected, community-centred ways of thinking. The paper also includes two community case studies to assist with demonstrating the Framework in action.

This paper is published in the Australian Journal of Community Work, edition 4, which can be accessed below.
