At Community Work Australia, we welcome community work professionals at every stage in their career journey. From students and new graduates to experienced practitioners, we recognise diverse experiences and educational pathways. If you're passionate about creating positive change and are a qualified professional, you may be eligible for membership.
Eligibility criteria
To become a member, you need to check your eligibility. This includes:
- Having completed a Community Work Australia accredited course, or holding a relevant qualification and having post qualification industry experience.
- Duration and type of industry experience;
- Australian resident or citizenship
If you graduated more than 10 years ago, you'll need to demonstrate that your professional knowledge is current by providing evidence of recent industry experience. Please note: All members must agree to uphold the Community Work Australia’s Code of Ethics.

Document checklist
You need to upload supporting documents with the form. We only accept high-resolution colour scans of original documents. Photos, low-quality, blurry or cropped scans will not be accepted.
The application process
Create an account
Create a login to get started and access the membership application form.
Fill out the form
Fill the online form. Applications take between 2-4 weeks to process.
Upload documents
Upload all documentation. Incomplete applications will not be processed.
Submit
Submit your application. If approved, you will receive 12 months of membership.
Add profile
Your profile will be added to our public listing to help people verify your professional standing.

Frequently asked questions
I’ve been working in community services for years but don’t have formal qualifications. Am I still eligible?
You must have a formal qualification to apply for Community Work Australia membership. However, if you would like to discuss your options please contact the membership team for further advice.
I am currently overseas, can I apply for membership?
Membership with Community Work Australia is only open to Australian residents or Australian citizens
I hold an international qualification. Can I still apply?
Yes, we accept relevant international qualifications.
Can I apply for membership if I’m unemployed?
You can still apply for membership if you’re currently unemployed. We recognise that career journeys include periods of transition. Whether you're studying, between roles, returning to the workforce, or planning your next step, your commitment to the community sector matters.
