Why CPD matters
Professional development supports ethical, effective practice and ensures community work professionals are ready to meet evolving needs. Community Work Australia recommends all members complete at least 20 hours of CPD per year. The best approach starts with identifying your priorities and building a realistic plan.
Create a CPD plan that works for you
A thoughtful training plan helps you make the most of your time and resources. It starts with understanding your current skill set, identifying areas for growth, and aligning your development with your role and future goals.
Use the Community Work Practice Guidelines and Self-Assessment Tool to help audit your skills. Review your position description, performance feedback or supervision notes to highlight strengths and gaps.
Areas of focus might include:
- Personal skills – time management, communication, teamwork
- Client support – youth engagement, men’s health, cultural responsiveness, counselling
- Sector knowledge – privacy, ethics, best practice, mandatory reporting
